I am running Windows XP Pro and have been try for several days to run Performance and Maintenance/Free Up Disk Space on my Hard Drive. After I click on the selection, the system displays the small window that says "Scanning: Compress Old Files". After a short period of time, the system beeps 8 times and then shuts down. I have been able to do this in the past until recently. What can I do?
